Trekking in Corsica – My adventure on the GR20
Day 1: Ajaccio to Calenzana
The adventure begins! I reach Ajaccio, the capital of Corsica, and make my way to Calenzana. The excitement is palpable. The first day on the GR20 should not be underestimated. The journey by bus and the climb to Calenzana are strenuous, but I'm full of anticipation.
Positive:
The breathtaking landscape and the anticipation of the trekking adventure.
Negative:
The heat is exhausting and the backpack feels heavy.
Day 2: Calenzana to Ortu di u Piobbu
The first stage on the GR20 is a challenge. The steep climb to Bocca au Saltu is strenuous, but the views are worth it. The destination is the Ortu di u Piobbu mountain hut, where I spend the night.
Positive:
The spectacular view from Bocca au Saltu and the warm atmosphere in the mountain hut.
Negative:
The steep climb is strenuous, and spending the night in the hut is quite easy.
Day 3: Ortu di u Piobbu to Carozzu
The path leads me further and the landscape becomes more and more impressive. The climb to the Refuge de Carozzu is rocky and demanding, but I feel alive and free in the wilds of Corsica.
Positive:
The untouched nature and the encounters with other trekking enthusiasts.
Negative:
The difficult path to Carozzu is tiring on the legs.
Day 4: Carozzu to Asco Stagnu
Today's stage takes me through dense forests and along rushing streams. The route to Asco Stagnu is less strenuous and I enjoy the enchanted atmosphere of the Corsican forests.
Positive:
The peaceful nature and refreshing water bodies along the way.
Negative:
The monotonous forest passages can get a bit boring.
Day 5: Asco Stagnu to Auberge U Vallone
The path becomes more challenging, but the views of the rugged peaks of Corsica are spectacular. At Auberge U Vallone I share stories with other trekking adventurers and enjoy the hospitality of the locals.
Positive:
The breathtaking views and the Corsican hospitality.
Negative:
The path becomes more and more demanding and fatigue becomes noticeable.
Day 6: Auberge U Vallone to Haute Asco
Today we climb high and the wind whips around the peaks. The reward is breathtaking views of the Corsican mountains. Haute Asco is a small paradise for mountain lovers.
Positive:
The impressive mountain landscape and the peace and quiet in Haute Asco.
Negative:
The path is demanding and the altitude can be challenging.
Day 7: Haute Asco to Tighjettu
The climb to Col de Tighjettu is steep and challenging, but the views of the rugged peaks are priceless. At the Refuge de Tighjettu I share stories with other trekking enthusiasts.
Positive:
The spectacular peaks and the community in the hut.
Negative:
The steep climb can be grueling.
Day 8: Tighjettu to Castel di Vergio
The last stage of the GR20 takes me to Castel di Vergio. The joy of reaching my goal is indescribable. I look back on an intense trekking adventure and the beauty of Corsica.
Positive:
The feeling of success and the memories of the impressive nature.
Negative:
The fatigue has reached its peak and I long for a warm shower.
Trekking the GR20 in Corsica is an unforgettable experience. The mix of challenges and breathtaking nature makes this adventure something special. Corsica exceeded my expectations and I return home with a feeling of gratitude for this unforgettable trip.
